Abstract: Ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of the transportation systems for liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, as well as for other media is the priority of every pipeline operator. For over twenty years, composite materials have been used to repair pipeline defects. Initially, composite materials were used to repair corroded pipelines in order to restore the strength of damaged areas. In addition to repairing corrosion defects, manufacturers offer to use composite materials for the repair of dents, corrugations, bent sections of pipes, including bends and tees. This paper gives a brief overview of various composite repair systems used outside Russia. It explores both advantages and limitations of their application and shows current and prospective areas of research to create more efficient repair systems.

Keywords: composite materials, pipeline repair, composite reinforcement, composite repair systems
