Abstract: The review part of the article provides theoretical bases of inertial navigation describes the design and operation of modern inertial navigation systems (INS) of various types, their comparative advantages and disadvantages, and gives the parameters characterizing the INS accuracy class.
The methodical part considers the application of INS in in-line inspection on the example of a practical implementation of the method for calculating navigation parameters in profilers and fault detectors to determine the position of the pipeline of Transneft Diascan, JSC. The emphasis is made on the necessity of performing the INS pre-launch orientation, as well as on the geodetic correction of the calculated route using the global navigation satellite system. The problems associated with measuring the bend radius and moving the pipeline are described. The results of implementation of the strap down inertial navigation system (BINS) of high accuracy in Transneft Diascan JSC are given.
