Abstract: Ensuring reliability and safety of the operation of oil pipelines is one of the priorities of Transneft. Its subsidiary, Transneft Ц Diascan JSC, collects information on the technical condition of the oil pipeline system using the method of in-line diagnostic. In order to determine the position of detected defects, inertial navigation systems shall be used in geodetic coordinate system. This article describes the development of Transneft Ц Diascan JSC from the moment when the company was founded to the present day, in particular, the use of inertial navigation systems in in-line diagnostics. In the process of technology development, the instrument accuracy characteristics were improved, unique methods for calculation of navigational parameters and a specialized flaw detector, capable of measuring not only the coordinates of the axis, but also pipeline displacement during operation, were developed.
