Stress analysis of the pipeline condition with the non-normative curvature of the axis

Abstract: The analysis based on the inside pipe inspection of non-normative diagrams of pipeline axis, curvature direction, curvature change in time and of other specific characteristics (e. g. availability of coils, shorter pipes or cold bending elbows) can be used to determine the reason of non-normative curvature and to develop calculation models describing its occurrence mechanism. The calculation models can be applied to assess the pipeline stress pattern in opening the trench, repairs and subsequent operation, and to substantiate the need in repairs and to define its engineering parameters. The article focuses on the calculation model describing the occurrence of a non-normative curvature near cold bending elbows due to a misalignment of heights and values of vertical angles across the pipeline string and trench bottom. Bend radii were calculated vs. the values of displacement of the vertical-angle heights of the pipeline and trench bottom.
