Abstract: When monitoring the technical condition of pipelines, the compliance of the parameters of the stress-strain state with the requirements of regulatory documentation is carried out. Some aspects are subject for discussion: errors in determining the pipeline curvature, initial bending of the pipe axis, initial bending shape, curvature of the sub-structure, axial misalignment of pipes in welding.
It is suggested to determine the normative pipe condition subject to the range of potential actual radii corresponding to the radius measurement results with different errors.
The initial bending, if available in pipes, is conditioned by factors occurring in the manufacture process, and can result in relatively low values of radius curvature measurements. The regulatory compliance check of originally non-linear pipes is distinguished by specific features described within this case study.
Differences between radii and stresses in selecting an approximation of initial bending shaped as circular arc and sinusoid were demonstrated. A bending of an originally nonlinear pipe on a curvilinear support contour was examined. In this case the actual curvature radius shall not be used in stress calculations.
The axial misalignment of welded pipes with an initial bending creates conditions of an inaccurate interpretation of the pipeline shape including overestimated bending stresses.
Future research tasks were formulated to consider the initial bending in the regulatory compliance check for pipeline conditions.

Keywords: pipeline, monitoring, strength, initial bending, elastic bending, check of normalization, state of stress, metering error, pipeline repair.
